Description:
Rare ENGRAVED Antique ALLEN & WHEELOCK Small Frame Perc. POCKET Revolver
Also Known as the “TRANSITION PEPPERBOX-REVOLVER”
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Rare Factory Engraved Allen & Wheelock Small Frame Double Action Percussion Pocket Revolver, made circa 1858-61 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Also known as the “Transition Pepperbox-Revolver”, this model was manufactured circa 1858 into the early 1860s with a total production of only about 1,000. The small frame model is identical in profile to that of the medium and large frame, but with a hammer that is evenly rounded.
The top of the frame is marked “ALLEN & WHEELOCK” with the bar hammer marked “PATENTED/APRIL 16 1845” and the cylinder is roll engraved with a wooded scene with deer and dogs in a forest scene. Matching serial number “20” on the barrel, frame, cylinder, mainspring, and inside both grips. The revolver is manufactured without sights, blue finish with casehardened cylinder and hammer, and fitted with smooth varnished walnut grips.
The overall condition is very good. Bright original gray patina. Strong action. The bore is in good shape, has dimmed, and retains strong rifling. Fine grips. Visible numbers match. Markings are clear and crisp. The cylinder scene is in-tact. The bottom left grip is stamped “150”. Here is a very nice example of an exceedingly scarce Allen & Wheelock Small Frame Percussion Revolver!
