RARE WWI-era C.S. Shattuck UNIQUE .22 Pepperbox
Description: RARE WWI-era C.S. Shattuck UNIQUE .22 Pepperbox PALM PISTOL Made Circa 1914, Initially by MOSSBERG Here we present a C.S. Shattuck Arms Company “Unique” Squeezer Palm Pistol in .22 caliber, made circa 1914 in Hatfield, Massachusetts. The exact number produced is unknown, but estimated at only several thousand from 1907-1915. This pistol was designed to be an extremely tiny pocket or backup gun for getting oneself out of close scrapes. It was and remains quite unconventional in its operation. It borrows the concept of four fixed barrels with a rotating firing pin from the Sharps Pepperbox, and though the mechanism is quite different, the squeeze-fire concept from the Palm Protector Pistol first patented by Jacques Trubiaux, which was made by both the Minneapolis Firearms Co. and the Chicago Fire Arms Co. The Unique was much smaller and more durable. On a somewhat humorous note, the toolmaker responsible for setting the dies for stamping the side of the pistol with the company name neglected to include both “T’s” in the name, while other weapons made by the company were done correctly with two “T’s”. One can only imagine the person who might have purchased this pistol in the early 20th century. Certainly that period was as tumultuous as any other with three U.S. Presidents having been assassinated within the last 42 years, the most recent McKinley in 1901. There was also continued racial tensions, violent labor strikes, the Great War and the dawn of the Roaring 20s Prohibition and gangsters. This specimen is low in serial number and very fine in condition. The frame is iron with nearly 100% of the original nickel finish remaining. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The bores and the firing mechanism are in fine condition. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Compare to only one other found worldwide at $2400! Barrel is 1-3/8 inches in length. Caliber: .22 rimfire The bores are in fine condition and the action is in excellent condition. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2100 #21725 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
