#4784 Smith & Wesson 1st Model Old Old American, 26XXX serial range (mid 1870s)

Description:
#4784 Smith & Wesson 1st Model Old Old American, 26XXX serial range (mid 1870s), 5-1/4”x44SWA (no doubt period shortened from the original 8” length) and with a bore that has a noticeable bulge and two patches of rust, but still having reasonably good rifling and looking like it possibly could still spin a bullet with some degree of accuracy. The action is basically tight and good, but it probably needs the trigger return spring turned around as it is holding the trigger in the rearward position rather than snapping it forward after the trigger is pulled. The trigger notch is good and if the trigger is held forward, it does catch and holds at full cock as it should. The exterior has about 40-50% of the original nickel, the rest wearing and peeling to a grey-brown. The triggerguard retains 60% soft blue, the grips show medium wear. Unfortunately it will be a long time coming before this old Smith & Wesson is “collectable” as an investment gun, but it could easily be a VERY decent re-inactment Cowboy Action gun and is interesting as a survivor of the Old West. About Good/Good+ as described. $1195
