Alexis revolver by Turner & Ross, .22 cal
Description: "Alexis" .22 caliber revolver made by Turner & Ross late 1870s, serial number 5916. Factory engraved! The gun functions perfectly, displays both February 1875 and March 1876 patent dates on the barrel and has the original early plastic T&R grips which are completely intact. This little trade name revolver is one of the most interesting because in order to cut production costs, the manufacturer built it without a cylinder stop: in order to fire, the hand lines the chamber up with the barrel and the pressure fit from the cylinder to the barrel holds it in place for firing. It is a design that appeared doomed to failure because of the almost certain misalignment of chamber and barrel. Condition: Original nickel finish with 95% on the barrel missing only in streaks on two flats at the rear; over 95% on the frame missing a small amount on the right side ahead of the cylinder and a spot on the butt; about 70% on the cylinder missing over a couple of chambers and some flutes. Dick Littlefield has been a collector for over 59 years and an antique gun dealer for almost that long. He is co-author of the book Frank Wesson Gunmaker, a major contributor to Flayderman’s Guide and The Blue Book of Antique Gun Values. He has also written a number of articles for Man at Arms Magazine. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Turner & Ross Model: Alexis Caliber Info: 22 Finish: nickel |
