Description: ANTIQUE Belgium " THE GUARDIAN AMERICAN MODEL OF 1878 " 7mm PINFIRE DA REVOLVER. NO FFL. Here is an Antique "The GUARDIAN AMERICAN MODEL of 1878" finely engraved on the cylinder, double action Model 1878 under Lefaucheux license 7mm Pinfire caliber with loading gate , ejector rod and folding trigger. All original parts are present with matching numbers. A very nice looking and complete example of an antique pin-fire revolver. During the Civil War European Pinfire Double Action Revolvers in 7,9,12 MM were very popular. This was one of the first type of revolvers using a cartridge over the traditional cap and ball pistols along with the cup fire front loading and the teat fire cartidge. They had a short life span and replaced with the introduction of the S&W rim fire black powder cartridge Condition: serial #32 , 7mm , 2 3/4 ” Octagonal barrel, good bore with moderate light pitting and still showing good rifling. The metal still retains most of the original nickel finish with fading, light scratches, handling marks. The original walnut checkered grips are in excellent condition. All factory markings are clear and legible. Mechanically works sporadically. Holds and fires in single action. Double action doesn’t always engage the trigger to advance the cylinder. Needs some fine tuning to put it in good working condition. Today, these revolvers are considered to be collector's items and are highly sought after by firearms enthusiasts and collectors alike.
