Antique Blued S&W 1 1/2, 2nd Issue Revolver
Description: This is a really nice example of a Smith and Wesson Model 1 1/2, 2nd Issue Revolver made between 1868-1875. It shows very little use with 98% bright original charcoal blue remaining on the frame and gripstraps. It was probably fired on just a few occasions and had enough rounds put through it at some point early in its life to get the barrel and cylinder hot enough to expand and cause that beautiful rich highly polished charcoal blue on the barrel to flake. The barrel has 80% bright original blue blue with the balance flaked while the cylinder is a bit more pronounced; it has flaked down to about 40% original blue. That said, there is very little blue loss on this revolver from actual handling wear, just flaking and typical of most tip-ups, the loss is solely on the barrel and cylinder. The rosewood grips are almost Mint with 99% original piano varnish remaining. Hammer and ejector rod have strong case colors. Screws look excellent overall and still retain much of their original finish. Nice crisp barrel address. Good mechanics and a Fine Bore. If not for the flaking of the blue, this 1 1/2 would be approaching Minty.
