Antique SMITH & WESSON 1st Model .32 Cal. Safety Hammerless LEMON SQUEEZER
RARE 2-1/2” Barreled SELF DEFENSE Revolver
Description: Antique SMITH & WESSON 1st Model .32 Cal. Safety Hammerless LEMON SQUEEZER RARE 2-1/2” Barreled SELF DEFENSE Revolver Here we present an antique 1st Model Smith & Wesson .32 Caliber Double Action Safety Hammerless Revolver, made circa 1898 with a production run between 1888 through 1902 in Springfield, Massachusetts with a serial number range of 1 through 91417. The Smith & Wesson Safety Hammerless models were produced from 1887 (1888 for the 32) to just before World War II. They were chambered in either .32 S&W with a six-shot cylinder or .38 S&W with a five-shot cylinder. They were most often produced with a 2-inch, 3-inch, or 3.5-inch barrel. But some 6" barreled versions are known to exist. This revolver was made to be a simple, compact and reliable firearm that one could carry in a pocket or a holster around the turn of the 20th Century. This revolver features an internal hammer design to remove risk of snagging or stopping the action. There is a grip safety built into the back of the grip frame. The frame is a top-break design that activates the automatic ejector. These are very nice features from the turn of the 20th Century! They were known as "The New Departure" to reflect the company's new approach to designing revolvers. The factory letter for this serial number (of which we only have a copy) states this example as being shipped on July 15, 1898 to T.W. Hutchinson as a special-order revolver. We believe the “special order” mention in the records simply denotes the rare 2 ½ inch barrel length as the finish and other details appear to be standard. The rare “bicycle gun” variant of this same model had a 2” barrel with the company address and patent information on the side of the barrel, rather than the top. This piece’s barrel was still long enough to be roll-marked on top of the barrel rib. Regarding Mr. Hutchinson, the recipient of this revolver, we believe it likely be Judge T.W. Hutchinson (1832-1908) of Olney, Illinois, a prominent lawyer and then judge in Richardson County. The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish and case colored trigger. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The S&W trademarked grips are in fine shape. Serial numbers match. A fantastic piece! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 2-1/2 inches. Caliber: .32 S&W Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1600 #220760 SOLD Antique: Yes
