c1878 mfr. Antique SMITH & WESSON Number 1-1/2 .32 Single Action Revolver
S&W FRONTIER HIDEOUT SIDEARM
Description: c1878 mfr. Antique SMITH & WESSON Number 1-1/2 .32 Single Action Revolver S&W FRONTIER HIDEOUT SIDEARM Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson Model Number 1-1/2 .32 Centerfire Revolver, also called the Smith & Wesson .32 Single Action, made circa 1878 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This would have been an excellent choice for someone looking for a small, light, easy to use, and handsome firearm for getting out of harm’s way in the 1870s. This would easily slip into a pocket, a sash, a boot, or up a sleeve for emergency use. This model represented the first .32 S&W centerfire caliber top-break revolver that automatically ejected spent cartridges upon opening. Similar in appearance to the Model 1-1/2 2nd Issue, this model has a 5-shot fluted cylinder and bird's-head grip of wood or checkered hard rubber. This model pivots downward on opening. It features a rebounding hammer that made the weapon much safer to fully load. Approximately 97,599 manufactured between 1878 and 1892. Smith & Wesson’s No. 1, their first metallic cartridge revolver, introduced the patented “bored through cylinder” concept by Rollin White, revolutionizing revolver design. S&W aggressively defended this patent from 1857 to 1870, maintaining a monopoly in the U.S. market, which made them highly profitable. White was left impoverished, and Chief of Ordnance Alexander Dyer remained resentful for missing out on the technology during the Civil War. After the patent expired, the U.S. government favored Colt, awarding them contracts for their larger .44 caliber revolvers over White’s designs. The overall condition is very fine. Original nickel finish is preserved. Excellent action. Both grips are fine. Markings are legible. The bore has a frosted appearance with sharp rifling. Numbers match. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-1/2 inches. Caliber: .32 S&W Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
