COLT U.S. CAVALRY "AINSWORTH" INSPECTED- WITH "KOPEC LETTER
Description: Colt U.S. Cavalry SAA revolver, .45 caliber, 7.5” barrel, dark patina, wood grips, S/N 1705; overall good to very good condition with pleasing dark patina to metal surfaces, very good bore, crisp action that is strong, indexes properly and locks up tight. sharp markings and good grips; butt strap shows center hole for lanyard ring base. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter confirming caliber and finish with barrel length and type of stocks “Not Listed”; shipped to the U.S. Government Inspector located at the Colt plant on October 11, 1895, 200 guns in shipment; under Remarks, indication is the original records pertaining to this revolver were lost or destroyed many years ago however, the records do indicate the return of this revolver for refurbishing and subsequent reshipment as noted above. Additionally, there is a Kopec letter that covers interesting information on his findings that several guns in this serial number range were in his data base and were related to the 6th Cavalry that was stationed at Fort Gibson and Camp Supply, Indian Territory with heavy engagements in many Indian battles during the early years in Texas, Indian Territory, in Arizona and New Mexico Territories. He also notes that after serving with a Cavalry regiment during these wars these revolvers were recalled and placed into storage until 1895, when a group of 2000 Cavalry revolvers were returned to Colt to be refurbished. Kopec states that this revolver was completed on October 11, 1895 destines for the State of New York. Buyer pays $20.00 shipping to lower 48 states.
