Hopkins & Allen Double Action, Top Break .38S&W Center fire folding hammer

Description:
This is an antique  Hopkins & Allen. A double action, top break Folding Hammer .38 S&W revolver manufactured by Hopkins & Allen Arms Co Norwich CT. , USA. It is so marked. 

The gun is a five-shot top break model with external folding hammer.  The nickel finish is 98%. The 3 1/4 inch barrel is standard on this model. The main and collectable feature of the gun is the folding hammer, the purpose of which is to allow you to draw from your pocket with out snagging the hammer spur on your clothing. The grips have a chip on the bottom of the right grip.(see photo)  The action functions perfectly, the hammer cocks and holds, the trigger drops the hammer.  The cylinder spins as designed when the hammer is at rest, but the lock up is tight when the hammer falls.  The top break action functions well and the spring is strong. The bore is excellent.
