ARMS CO. MAYNARD PRIMED POCKET REVOLVER "ENGRAVED
Description: Very Fine Engraved Massachusetts Arms Co. Maynard Primed Pocket Revolver. This is likely the same revolver pictured in L.W. Jone's article "Handguns of the Massachusetts Arms Co." in the American Society of Arms Collectors bulletin. Only approximately 3,000 of Pocket Model revolvers were manufactured between 1851 and 1860 in multiple variations. This very attractive example is the smaller size version with a manually revolved cylinder that was manufactured earlier in production. It has a cone front sight, "MASS. ARMS. CO./CHICOPEE FALLS" and a small notch rear sight on the top strap, "MAYNARD'S PATENT/SEP. 22. 1845." on the primer door which also has scroll engraving, scroll engraved frame, classical martial themed etching on the cylinder, a flourish of engraving on the back strap, the matching serial number "116" on most components (frame, primer door, grip frame, and grips), and the assembly number "806" on the barrel and arbor pin. Condition is Very fine with 75% plus bright original blue finish and a smooth brown patina on the balance, crisp engraving and markings, mostly distinct etching, and minor spotting and wear. The grips are also very fine and have mild handling wear and light scratches. Mechanically fine. Buyer pays $20.00 shipping to lower 48 states.
