Brief History
The Smith & Wesson Model 1½ was introduced by Smith & Wesson in 1878 and remained in production until approximately 1892. It was the company's first revolver chambered for the new .32 S&W centerfire cartridge and featured a top-break action with automatic extraction of fired cartridges when the revolver was opened. Approximately 97,000 were produced, making it one of the classic pocket revolvers of the late Victorian era.
The revolver's serial number (85,778) places it in the later years of production, likely manufactured around 1889–1891. The 3½-inch barrel was the standard barrel length and was popular for personal defense and pocket carry.

With a small frame and auto-ejecting fluted cylinder, this revolver boasts a double top post barrel latch and a 3 ½ “ raised ribbed round barrel. A pinned half-moon front sight with fixed rear sight.  The 5-shot .32 S&W short revolver has all serialized parts matching.  Its barrel-to-frame fit is very tight and the action functions very well mechanically with good timing and lock-up.

Condition:  3 ½”  barrel with a bright excellent bore  showing very strong rifling.  The metal surfaces still retain about 95% of the original nickel.  The finish has some very light scratches,  handling marks with light edge wear, flaking, and some oxidation with a tiny bit of finish loss.  The trigger has toned to a gun metal gray while the hammer still retains some case-hardened colors. The barrel latch still retains a generous amount of original blue .  Original hard rubber factory grips feature the Smith & Wesson monogram on the top and are in excellent condition.    All the appropriate parts are correctly numbered to the gun and all barrel markings are clear and legible.  Mechanically  the gun appears to work excellent in single action with very good timing and very tight lock-up.  The current condition of the item listed has been described to the best of my ability . This complete, rare, and original Top Break single action revolver is hard to find in this condition.
