VELO DOG (Bicycle pistol)
Description: Belgium revolver, this is a VELO-DOG 5 SHOT REVOLVER in caliber 5.5mm or (.22CENTER FIRE) with a folding trigger. The bore and cylinder chambers are bright and shiny. The finish is 100% nickel plating. The grips are black hard rubber with an unusual checkered pattern and are in perfect condition save for an "M" carved in the butt of the left grip. The barrel is 1 5/8 inches long and the cylinder is 1 7/16 inches long. Talk about all the bells and whistles. It is mechanically perfect in both double action and single action. The Velo Dog .22 CF ctg. "Velo" refers to Velocipede, or bicycle. Bicycling was very popular in 19th Century and the .22 Velo Dog gun and ctg. were popular for personal defense. The "Dog" reference may be regarding the "bulldog" type revolvers popular at that time, or to the cyclist protection from canine attackers while riding through the country side.
