Description:
This civilian 38 rim fire conversion was machined to accept black powder cartridges. Frame is ball milled and cylinder is turned with piece added just behind cylinder stop grooves. Chambers are counterbored for shell rims and cylinder locks up tight. Nickel, about 95%, was applied at time of conversion which copies Remington's 5 shot .46 first method. Serial #25565 likely converted after 1868 when the S&W patent expired. Whitney never converted their revolvers. 7 groove rifling.
