English Transitional Revolver by Lang, Cockspul St. London. Percussion approximately .44 caliber, six-shot revolver. Barrel length 6" and overall length is 12". In his book, The Handgun by Geoffrey Boothroyd describes the gas seal feature in which the cylinder moves forward when the hammer is cocked and engages the breech of the barrel so as to form a seal to keep burning gases from escape. He notes that Lang was one of the 5 most prolific retailers of the “Gas Seal Revolvers". This revolver has a feature patented by T.K. Baker of Fleet St. London where the hammer is made to angle to the right when cocked and allows full view of the sights which did not appear on earlier bar hammer transitional revolvers where the sights were obscured by the bar hammer. Additionally, Baker patented a long cocking spur on the hammer to allow for single action cocking, a really good improvement as double action cocking often pulls the shooter off target. This pistol also has a patent lever assembly under the barrel to operate the ramrod, a feature also not on the bar action pistols. This is a significant collection piece for an English revolver collection!
