1 of 200 CIVIL WAR Antique JOSIAH ELLS Percussion SIDEHAMMER MODEL Revolver VERY SCARCE & ENGRAVED 3rd Model DA POCKET Revolver
Description: 1 of 200 CIVIL WAR Antique JOSIAH ELLS Percussion SIDEHAMMER MODEL Revolver VERY SCARCE & ENGRAVED 3rd Model DA POCKET Revolver Here we present a very scarce antique Engraved Josiah Ells Third Model Double Action Percussion Revolver, made in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania circa 1857-59, with an estimated total production run of only 200 of these “Sidehammer Model” revolvers. It has light hand engravings on the rear section of the frame and on the cylinder. Cone front sight and a top strap groove rear sight. The left side of the hammer is marked “ELLS PATENT” with “AUG. 1 1854 / APRIL. 28. 1857” on the right. Though not a primary military arm during the American Civil War, these types of handguns were commonly privately purchased by soldiers for use on the battlefield. Whether legend or fact, it is interesting to note something commonly read about pocket revolvers of the day, that while they could be used for self-defense against the enemy, many soldiers kept them on their person to defend themselves. The overall condition is good. The action fully functions, but the cylinder does not lock up in single action. Good bore for its age. Solid grips. The frame is lightly hand engraved with traditional designs. Markings are legible. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-3/4 inches. Caliber: .31 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1550 #240105 SOLD Antique: Yes |
