Marking on top of the barrel is "Pettengills Patent 1856". This gun is engraved by Gustave Young and is one of the most elaborately engraved that I have seen. Look close and you will see the bear coming out of the center of the scroll work. The metal is a plum/brown color with sharp corners. Decent markings. Nice action. Serial number 28. Original wood grips are in good condition.
