Ornate 19th Century PINFIRE Revolver w Lanyard ENGRAVED Sculpted Grips 9mm European Double Action Sidearm
Description: Ornate 19th Century PINFIRE Revolver w Lanyard ENGRAVED Sculpted Grips 9mm European Double Action Sidearm Here we present an attractive antique European Double Action Pinfire Revolver in 9mm, made circa the mid-19th Century, likely in Liege, Belgium. The pinfire cartridge was one of the earliest successful self-contained metallic cartridges, invented circa 1837 by Casimir Lefaucheux in France. The cartridge not only contained the bullet, powder, and primer within the case, but also the firing pin, which protruded from the side of the base. Loading it required the firing pin to be sticking out of the chamber so the flat of the hammer could smack it into the primer. All manner of firearms were produced to handle the new cartridge, though the pinfire revolver was probably most popular. Side by side shotguns and pistols also widely utilized this new technology nearly the rest of the way through the 19th Century, especially throughout Continental Europe, until centerfire technology made pinfire completely obsolete. This revolver features simple engraving throughout, as well as sculpted grips. The barrel has a full-length rib and there is only provision for a bead front sight—after all, this was meant for up-close social work. A lanyard completes the feature set and, if utilized, would have made it harder to disarm the user. “C.S.A.” has been stamped on the right side of the barrel. The overall condition is good. The action (trigger/hammer) is functional though the trigger return spring is absent, so the trigger must be reset manually. The bore is in great shape, clean with nice rifling. The grips are solid and are shimmed at the top for a tighter fit. A very nice-looking piece of European hardware! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 6 inches. Caliber: 9mm Pinfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1950 #20721 SOLD Antique: Yes |
