#4247 Remington 1858 Navy, 38CF converted in the 1870s for commercial sales
Description:
#4247 Remington 1858 Navy, 38CF converted in the 1870s for commercial sales to the Frontier West, 44XXX serial range. Fine bore and action, basically smooth metal with a mottled grey appearance and only minor freckling of light pitting. Grips have the usual wear and toe chips, but are VG, as are the markings.
These 38CF conversions make GREAT shooters, as the very common 38SW Special casings fit perfectly and can be loaded with black powder (or equivalent) and wad-cutter bullets. It will also chamber the shorter center fire cases such as 38S&W, 38COLT, …and even the longer 357 cases can be trimmed to size and loaded with black powder pressure loadings. All this, of course, after being safety checked by your gunsmith. These are neat 1870s-early 1880s revolvers. VG $1895
