1871 mfr Antique COLT CLOVERLEAF .41 Revolver ROBBER BARON JUBILEE JIM FISK SCARCE, 1 of 5,300 with the 4-Leaf Clover Shaped Cylinder
Description: 1871 mfr Antique COLT CLOVERLEAF .41 Revolver ROBBER BARON JUBILEE JIM FISK SCARCE, 1 of 5,300 with the 4-Leaf Clover Shaped Cylinder Here we present an antique Colt Cloverleaf House Revolver, made in 1871 in Hartford, Connecticut, with a production run between 1871 and 1876. Only about 7,500 of these unique revolvers were made, with only 2,200 of the 5-shot House Models and about 5,300 of them with the distinctive 4-shot, “cloverleaf” cylinder. It was chambered for the .41 Rimfire, a relatively large cartridge for the size of pistol. It was intended for self-defense and succeeded. They were marketed as being good guns for home protection, hence the moniker “House Revolver”. This model Colt was made most infamous in the shooting death of Gilded Age Robber Baron “Jubilee” Jim Fisk. Here’s more on that story; Fisk, known as “Jubilee Jim”, was a powerful and flamboyant figure in New York’s finance scene. A self-made man, he left school at 12 to sell textiles and later made his fortune in stocks and railroads, helping oust Vanderbilt from Erie Railroad and forging ties with Tammany Hall. Married but obsessed with his mistress Josie Mansfield, Fisk lavished her with gifts and support, fueling scandal in Victorian NYC. Tensions rose when Fisk’s partner, Edward Stokes, began an affair with Josie, causing a rift. Desperate for money, Stokes and Josie tried to blackmail Fisk with damaging letters. Fisk refused and went to the police. Enraged, Stokes ambushed him at the Grand Central Hotel and shot him twice, killing him at age 36. Stokes was quickly captured and identified as the murderer. The overall condition is fine. And wow, this piece has great original blue finish! Strong action. The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling. Both grips are fine with light handling wear on the edges. Sharp markings. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3 inches.
