Antique LETTERED COLT Model 1877 “THUNDERER” .41 Cal. REVOLVER Doc Holliday B. KITTREDGE of CINCINNATTI, OHIO Shipped
Description: Antique LETTERED COLT Model 1877 “THUNDERER” .41 Cal. REVOLVER Doc Holliday B. KITTREDGE of CINCINNATTI, OHIO Shipped Here we present an antique Rare Lettered B. Kittredge & Co. shipped Colt Model 1877 “Thunderer” Revolver with an etched panel barrel, manufactured in 1880. The factory letter states this revolver’s configuration (minus the ivory grips) when it was shipped to B. Kittredge & Company in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 14, 1880 as part of a 26 gun shipment. This beautiful “Sheriff’s Model” gun sports a 3-1/2 inch barrel with antique ivory grips. The Model 1877 was designed in 1876 by William Mason and was offered in three different calibers with production beginning in January 1877, which led to the three unofficial names. The first production model was the “Lightning”, in the .38 Long Colt caliber. Later that year, Colt came out with the .41 Long Colt caliber called the “Thunderer”. The .32 Long Colt caliber, called the “Rainmaker”, did not go into production until sometime in 1887. Benjamin Kittredge, the largest Colt Distributor in Cincinnati, Ohio, coined the nicknames for these guns as a marketing tool. He was also responsible for calling the 1873 Single Action Army, the “Peacemaker”. None of the nicknames were ever used by the factory in any reference materials. The 1877 "Thunderer" in .41 caliber was the preferred weapon of Billy the Kid and was his weapon of choice when he was killed by Pat Garrett in 1881. The overall condition is fine. This is the finish witnesses said Doc Holliday owned in a Colt double action revolver, which people surmise was a Model 1877. This one has a nickel finish with fire blued accents on the hammer and trigger as well as ivory grips. Clear etched panel. The action is excellent and crisp. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The ivory grips are smooth and solid. This is a looker and it letters! A great piece for any Colt collector or the Doc Holliday fan! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-1/2 inches. Caliber: .41 Colt Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $4415 #220147 SOLD Antique: Yes |
