CASED Double Action BRITISH WEBLEY R.I.C. Type .380 Cal Revolver Antique
“WEBLEY EXPEDITIONARY MARINE REVOLVER”
Description: CASED Double Action BRITISH WEBLEY R.I.C. Type .380 Cal Revolver Antique “WEBLEY EXPEDITIONARY MARINE REVOLVER” Here we present a British Webley Royal Irish Constabulary Type Revolver in the .380 Revolver Cartridge, made in England. Webley produced their first pistol in 1853 and introduced their first double action in 1867. The success of the world-famous Webley Firearms Company was in no small part due to the existence of the R.I.C. In 1867, Philip Webley launched a new compact revolver design, which was to achieve recognition throughout the world and remain in production for more than 60 years. Webley secured a contract to supply his weapon to the R.I.C. in January 1868, a stroke of good fortune which ensured the financial success of the company and established it as the foremost supplier of personal firearms to the Government and Colonial Forces for years to come. This example comes with a wood case and a tag noting it as a “Webley Expeditionary Marine Revolver” from 1872 and “Antarctic Expedition Capt. Robert Falcon Scott R.N.” and twelve rounds of .380 short ammunition. Captain Robert Falcon Scott (June 6, 1868 to circa March 29, 1912) was a Royal Navy officer and explorer who led two expeditions to the Antarctic regions which included the Discovery expedition of 1901–1904 and the ill-fated Terra Nova expedition of 1910–1913. On the first expedition, he set a new southern record by marching to latitude 82°S and discovered the Antarctic Plateau, on which the South Pole is located. On the second venture, Scott led a party of five which reached the South Pole on January 17, 1912, less than five weeks after Amundsen's South Pole expedition. A planned meeting with supporting dog teams from the base camp failed, despite Scott's written instructions, and at a distance of 162 miles from their base camp at Hut Point and approximately 12.5 miles from the next depot, Scott and his companions died. The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish. Excellent action! The bore is good for its age with sharp rifling. Clean markings—simply marked “C/380” and with Birmingham black powder proofs on the frame, barrel, and each chamber. The grip is in fine shape with a low amount handling. This example includes a nice period case and accoutrements. This firearm is classified as an Antique. Barrel is 4-1/4 inches. Caliber: .380 Revolver (Centerfire) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Delivered directly to your door! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2550 #217342 SOLD Antique: Yes |
