Description: The Colt Pocket Navy Conversion represents an important transitional period in American firearms history when Colt converted their successful percussion revolvers to fire metallic cartridges. Originally produced as percussion revolvers in the 1860s, many were later converted to cartridge firing during the 1870s to meet the growing demand for modern ammunition systems while utilizing existing inventory.
This very good circa 1874 example features the distinctive 4.5" octagonal barrel and classic brass trigger guard and back strap configuration. The cylinder bears the famous stagecoach holdup scene engraved by master engraver William Ormsby, one of the most recognizable and artistic cylinder scenes in Colt's history. Shows traces of original case coloring with mixed patina that adds character and authenticity to this antique revolver. Mechanically excellent throughout and functions properly despite its 150-year age. An important example of Colt's successful transition from percussion to cartridge revolvers during the post-Civil War era.
