CONFEDERATE- "L.E. TUCKER & SONS" "TEXAS
ARMS"
DRAGOON
.44 CAL.
Description: This is, what I believe to be, a Revolver that was assembled after the Civil War. The Tucker, Sherrard and Co. was formed in 1861 in Marshall, Texas. In April 11, 1862 a contract with this firm and the State of Texas, was drawn up for the manufacture of 3,000 revolvers. 1500 of which were to be .44 caliber. As the Confederate States, impressed most of their employes in to Military service. They were unable to fulfill the order, and so notified , that unless the state furnished manpower , etc., they would not be able to fullfill it! As of January 28, 1863 they had on hand , parts some 400 revolvers , "nearly finished". Because the firm had failed to live up to it's contract, The contract was cancelled in the summer of 1863. Then on June 1, 1867 , a sucsessor to the failed venture, offered ," about 400 caliber .44 old style army revolvers which we plan to embellish into high class merchandise." The embellishing "into high class merchandise", appears to have consisted of acid etching the cylinders with figures, cannon and shields, with a large star separating the words, "TEXAS ARMS". (This description is from excerpts from the book" CONFEDERATE HANGUNS" by Albaugh/Benet/Simmons. This old revolver has a 7.5" barrel with a strongly rifled bore, showing some corrosion. Metal is all grey to brown patina showing scattered oxidation. The brass triggerguard and backstrap are a pleasing un-cleaned brass patina. The hardwood , one piece grips appear to be Cherry Wood and show handling marks and smoothing. Action is strong and indexes properly and locks up tight. Buyer pays $20.00 shipping to lower 48 states. I accept USPS Money Orders and Bank Cashier's Check.( Will accept Personal check, with shipping hold). 3 Day non-firing non-disassembly inspection period. If returned, for any reason, full refund less shipping.ANTIQUE! SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: L.E.
