Pocket revolver manufactured by the American Standard Tool Co., of Newark, New Jersey, between 1868 and 1873. The revolver is a close copy of the S&W First Model, 2nd issue .22 revolver and is nearly identical to the .22 caliber revolvers manufactured by the Manhattan Firearms Co. The revolver has a ribbed, octagon, barrel, six-shot cylinder, spur trigger and two-piece walnut grips. The sides of the frame are factory engraved with open scroll work on a punch-dot background. Open flourishes are engraved on the sides of the frame, top strap, back strap and butt. "Henry Rogers U.S.N." is engraved on the backstrap. The cylinder is roll-stamped with a robber scene. The walnut grips have a high gloss varnish finish. The top of the barrel rib is roll-stamped: "AMERICAN STANDARD TOOL CO. NEWARK N J" in a single line. The serial number, "30760" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel. The engraving is tasteful and well-executed. Included are Henry Rogers Marine Corp Military service and Pension records.
Condition:Excellent. The revolver retains traces of the original nickel-plated finish. The engraving is deep and crisp. The grips are in very good condition and retain nearly 90% of the original varnish. The action is crisp and functions well. This is an excellent example of a very rare deluxe, engraved, American Standard Tool Co., pocket pistol.
