Jacob Rupertus “NERO” Spur Trigger Revolver Circa 1870’s
Description: Here we present an antique Jacob Rupertus “Nero” Spur Trigger Pocket Revolver, made circa the mid-1870s in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Jacob Rupertus was an American handgun designer and manufacturer. Rupertus was born in Bavaria sometime around 1822 or 1823 and died in Laurel Springs, New Jersey, on February 14, 1921. Sometime around 1849, he wed Caroline Bechtel, who had been born on February 12, 1831 in Leiterswiller, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France. Rupertus founded the Rupertus Patented Pistol Manufacturing Company, which was located 1924 North 4th Street in Philadelphia and was in operation between 1859 and 1899. On July 19, 1864 he received the U.S. patent No. 43.606 for a revolver with a rotating multi-shot pepper-box. During a time when many, if not most people carried a firearm, these affordable little revolvers were small enough to conceal and carry yet provide some level of protection or peace of mind, even when the town did not allow firearms within its limits. Though this little spur trigger was made years after the close of the Civil War, handguns like this were commonly privately purchased by soldiers for use on the battlefield. Whether legend or fact, it is interesting to note something commonly read about pocket revolvers of the day, that while they could be used for self-defense against the enemy, many soldiers kept them on their person to defend themselves against an unwanted amputation in the primitive field hospitals that were notorious, even in their day. The overall condition is super fine. Original nickel finish comes in at 98%. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age and has retained shimmer. The grips are in excellent original condition. The top of the frame is marked “NERO”. This is a totally unmolested piece of 1800’s Americana. Truly a favorite boot / vest piece of the gamblers of the day. Being antique this will require no ATF paper-work for the transaction. For payment we will accept personal checks, money orders, certified check or cashiers’ check, all major credit cards. Credit cards are acceptable with a 4% up-charge for processing. Personal checks require 8 business days to clear the bank, all other forms of payment receive same day as received shipment. Shipping and full coverage insurance is $50. You are responsible for any state and local laws. By purchase of this item, you release the seller from any liability that may arise due to use or misuse of this firearm.
