Description: Rare Antique Whitney Arms Co. No. 1 ½ Single Action .32 RF Pocket Revolver This is a rare Antique .32 RF, 5 shot, pocket revolver, Spur trigger with bird’s head grip. long cylinder flutes, brass frame. Total revolvers produced in model #1,#1 ½, and #2 about 30,000 from 1871-1879. This is one of the models they produced with as a No 1 ½ model. Nickel finish Matching numbers 5 rounds Medium frame 9 oz. Pull pin cylinder release .32 RF Black Powder cartridges Eli Whitney founded Whitney Arms back around 1790. Yes the same guy that invented the cotton gin but failed to make any money from it, so turned to manufacturing firearms with great success. No other American gun maker produced such a broad range of arms as did Whitney. His name appears on many models from the earliest American flintlocks to lever action repeating rifles. The first famed Walker Colt 44 percussion revolvers were produced by Whitney under a sub contract for Colt who needed to produce 1000 pieces for the army during the Mexican war. Amazing history behind this company. Top of barrel marked: WHITNEYVILLE ARMORY CT. U.S.A. PAT.MAY23.1871 Condition: 3 1/4” octagon barrel has a very fine bright bore showing a few pinprick pits and very strong rifling throughout. Long fluted cylinder ,barrel and Frame are a mix of original nickel and brass frame starting to show through. The barrel model name remains intact and legible. The brass frame is in very nice condition showing a mild ocher patina with some scattered light handling marks. The original smooth Rosewood grips are in excellent condition retaining most of the original varnish with some scattered light dings. All appropriate parts are correctly numbered to the gun. Mechanically excellent with tight cylinder lock-up and very good timing Hammer maintains a strong hammer spring that holds in half and full-cock position. The current condition of the item listed has been described to the best of my ability . Please examine the photos and text thoroughly and make sure to ask any and all questions.
