1874 Mfg. Frontier LADIE’S MUFF/BACKUP Handgun

Here we present an antique Colt New Line .32 Rimfire Revolver with the rare Kittredge & Company “Ladies Colt” Inscription, made in 1874 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Kittredge Company was a large firearms dealer based in Cincinnati, Ohio, through which many state militias acquired firearms for their men during the Civil War. Kittredge gave great and enticing monikers to many of the Colt firearms of the time such as Lightning, Thunderer, Omnipotent, Big Colt, and Ladies Colt! This was a gun specifically marketed to women wanting reassurance; something they could slip into a pocket, an apron, a purse, a muff, or their skirts. A few, especially early guns of their type, were inscribed or otherwise marked that way from the Colt factory, but the names stuck even without the markings.

The overall condition is very good. It wears an old refinish. The action is strong; indexes well on all but one chamber. The bore is patinated with good rifling. The grips are solid, showing use. Numbers match.
