Description:
This is a very nice Smith & Wesson , Second Model , Schofield Single Action Revolver. Manufactured fo the U.S. military circa 1876-77. The revolver is marked with the two line address/patent dates on left side of ejector housing flanked by elingated Maltese crosses. The right side of the ejector housing is marked"+SCHOFIELD'S PAT.APR.22D 1873+". The butt is marked "U.S." along with the serial number "5359". The rear cylinder face is stamped with the matching serial and Ordnance sub-inspector's "E" and "P", there is also a "E" and "P" on the bottom flat of the ejector housing. .45 Schofield Caliber. 6 shot fluted cylinder. 7" barrel with an excellent bright bore. Blued finish of which approx. 65%to 70% remains the balance of finish is a pleasing patina. Serial number #5359 is found on the butt end and on the back of the cylinder. manufactured in 1876-1877. Total produced 5,934. The original nicely figured walnut grip panels , though lightly struck, appear to be numbered to the gun. Both panels have a very nice "cartouche" . The left panel is marked "1876" under the cartouche. The wood is very nice and only shows a very few use marks. Many of the Schofield Revolvers were issued to the 4TH Cavalry which saw service in the Geronimo Campaign, the famous 9th and 10th U.S. Cavalry comprised of the "Buffalo Soldier's stationed in the American Southwest. People such as the James Brothers, Cole Younger, U.S. Marshal Bill Tilghman and Chief Scout for Custer "Lonesome Charley" Reynolds were known to carry a Schofield revolver. .Buyer pays $35.00 shipping to lower 48 states.
