Smith and Wesson Army
Description: An exceptional example of a Smith & Wesson 'No. 2 Army Revolver'. The 'No. 2' was designed for the .32 long rim fire cartridge making it the first practical self defense metallic cartridge revolver in the USA, it went into production in 1861. The onset of the American Civil War, 1861-1865, coinciding with its introduction resulted in the 'No. 2' becomming a very popular personal weapon for soldiers in that conflict. This S&W No.2 Army was built in 1865. This very handsome example was built with the standard 6" barrel and in addition has what Smith & Wesson called 'Half Plated' finish - blued barrel and cylinder with silver plated frame. Though this was the standard configuration of the S&W Model One .22rf revolver very few No. 2 Army models were put up in this manner and surviving examples are seldom seen. This one is exceptional. CONDITION: Excellent original condition; the barrel and cylinder retain 97% original lovely high polish blued finish with a bit of light aging. The frame retains 97% silver plating with some light aging of the wrought iron frame. The bore is shiny excellent with some spots of light storage rust. All mechanical functions are excellent - the revolver shows little or no use. The cylinder stop atop frame and barrel tip-up release retain nearly all their blue. Hammer, trigger, and ejector rod retain most of their dull casehardening. The screws retain most of their finish. The rosewood grips are excallent retaining 97% original varnish finish and matching serial number to the revolver. The barrel, cylinder, and frame bear matching factory assembly number, ' X 1 '. Please see all detail and overall pictures. A beautiful and rare variation of the famous 'S&W No.2 Army' for the Smith & Wesson or Civil War collector. NOTE: This antique pistol is being sold purely as a collector's item. It cannot be shipped to any locations where firearms legislation does not recognize antique arms, such as NYC, NJ, etc. Buyers are fully responsible for abiding by their local firearms regulations.
