Successor of the 1st Model “Baby Russian”!
Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson .38 Single Action Second Model Revolver, manufactured 1877 through 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Smith & Wesson manufactured approximately 108,225 of these revolvers between during its 14-year production run. It was a slight variation from the 1st, so-called “Baby Russian”. This would have competed head-to-head against the Colt New Line lineup of similar single action revolvers amongst America’s armed citizenry. This would have been large enough to do good work while being small enough to keep in a pocket or small holster around the midsection in the late-19th Century.
The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish and case colors. Strong action all the way around. Bright bore. Firm grips in good shape, containing a small crack on the right butt. Numbers match. This revovler would have confidently been relied upon for everyday self-defense in the big cities in the East to the Boom Towns of the West.
