Tipping & Lawden Type Revolver by Horton of Glasgow w/ Holster
Description: Serial #226, .450 CF, 4" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has moderate freckling within the grooves. This is an "W. HORTON / 29 UNION ST. / GLASGOW" marked revolver that retains 85-90% of a reapplied nickel finish with some dark freckling along the high and exposed edges, and bare gray metal on the toprstrap at the retailer's address. The checkered walnut grip has a pronounced saw-handle profile, and is in very good-fine shape with light handling marks, and some mild flattening of the points. The tip of the extended knuckle has been chipped and expertly repaired with plastic wood at some point. The lock-up is tight, and the action functions flawlessly. This is a variant of the Tipping & Lawden Self-Extracting design which originally had a separate barrel that rotated and pulled away from a fixed extractor. This model has a more conventional swing-out extractor rod hinged to the underside of the barrel. The revolver is housed in a later period, close-fitting brown leather flap holster with snap-fastened closure strap. The leather of the holster is slightly stiff, and has some mild crazing and flaking, but is otherwise in fine shape. This is a fine-example of a rarely seen British revolver, with a rare Glaswegian retailer marking.
