Description: Very Rare Antique American Standard tool Co. Single Action Pocket Revolver Second Model - American Standard Tool Co. Newark, NJ 7 shot. .22 cal. 3” octagon barrel Flat frame copy of the S&W Second Model Manufactured from April 1869 to February 1873. Serial number 22475. Total production only about 40,000 Serial # 14591 Made by Manhattan Firearms Company Seven shot cylinder with 14 cylinder stop notches 3 1/8” raised rib octagon barrel that tips-up for loading .22RF Brass frame with blued barrel & cylinder 2 Piece smooth walnut grips unengraved cylinder Barrel Marked: AMERICAN STANDARD TOOL CO. NEWARK. N.J. Brief Company History: The Manhattan Arms Company was a significant player in the firearms industry during the mid-19th century. Founded in 1856, it was based in Newark, New Jersey. The company quickly gained prominence for its innovative designs and quality craftsmanship, particularly in the realm of revolvers and pistols. Manhattan Arms Co. was a direct competitor to other renowned firearm manufacturers of the time, including Colt, Remington, and Smith & Wesson. Their firearms were highly regarded for their reliability and effectiveness, earning them popularity among both civilian and military markets. Condition: Nice overall bore with a light oxidation and strong rifling. Barrel and cylinder retain a nice gray gun-metal patina. most of the original blue has worn away with light oxidation speckling. Doesn't appear to have any cylinder engraving. The frame is mostly a ocher patina. The smooth walnut left grip is in very fine condition retaining almost all of the original varnish with some minor handling marks. The right grip has a repair done to the bottom corner. The barrel markings are clear and legible. The barrel to frame fit ok . The action is functional with very good timing and lock-up. Due to their historical significance, limited production numbers,, Manhattan Arms Co. pistols are highly sought after by collectors of antique firearms. This pistol represents a rare and historically significant firearm. Its innovative design and limited production make it a prized collectible for enthusiasts of antique firearms. This is a very rare, hard to find Manhattan Revolver. Very attractive with a beautiful antique appearance. A really nice example for any antique arms collector.
