Wesson & Harrington No. 5 Transitional H&R Marked Revolver
Description: Serial #2737, .32 RF, 2 1/2" octagon barrel with a very good, bright bore that has an area of dark pitting at the breech. This is an unusual revolver that has all matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, barrel, and grips, and utilizes a Wesson & Harrington No. 5 frame with raised rear topstrap and short sighting groove, but with Harrington & Richardson 1876 patent date markings for the H&R No. 1 revolver (late production No. 5s did have H&R markings, but with the 1871 patent date). The metal retains 80-85% of the original nickel with some scattered areas of dark, plum-brown freckling where the underlying metal has been exposed. The hammer retains about 70% of the original color case-hardening with thin freckling, and the knurled end of the cylinder pin/ejector has deep tool marks. The rosewood grips are in fine shape with scattered small handling marks, and some flaking of the varnish. The lock-up is tight, and the revolver rates very good-fine overall. This was made at about the time the changeover to the No. 1 took place, and was evidently made with a surplus No. 5 frame. This is a rather rare little H&R, and would make a great addition to a collection.
