#3860 Starr 1863 S/A Army, 28XXX range (1864?), 44cal percussion

#3860 Starr 1863 S/A Army, 28XXX range (1864?), 44cal percussion and having a crisp action (EXCEPT that it is missing the mainspring) and a VG bore with no serious blemishes, just the usual black powder pitting and lead build-up seen in the majority of CW revolvers. Some faint traces of original blue mixed in with a light patina on basically smooth metal and with VG markings. No pitting of consequence and crisp edges showing very little wear. VG+ grips with minor bumps and bruises and average wear; dimly visible cartouches remaining on both sides, easily seen with good eyes (…as for me, I’m damn lucky that I can see the gun!!) As is quite common with these S/A Starrs, this one does NOT have a mismatched cylinder! For some odd reason, this occurance seems much more prevalent in the Starr revolvers than in any other CW revolver. Of course, the most common reason that many military revolvers made during the Civil War are found to now have mismatched cylinders was due to the habit of cleaning handguns by boiling the powder residue out of the cylinders in coffee pots or other cookware after the evening meal. On re-assembly no care was given to make sure the parts were to the correct numbered gun. However, in the case of the Starr revolvers, it is more likely that this mismatching occured when they were sold off as surplus and partially disassembled, as there just seems to be so many that are mismatched.
