#4846 Colt 1860 Army revolver, 8”x44-percussion, 167XXX (1866), CASED Civilian model
Description: #4846 Colt 1860 Army revolver, 8”x44-percussion, 167XXX (1866), Civilian model with the recoil shield not having the cut for shoulder stock. Tight action with VG bore, about a 7 on a scale of 10. The serial number has the factory “E” below the number indicating “engraving” which this gun is, but being a modest grade without the stipple background and muzzle treatment. The metal is very smooth with no pitting at all, and looks to be silver plated (having traces of tarnish in more protected areas) and it is fitted with original deeply age cracked ivory grips. It comes with a reasonably decent reproduction case and has an unmarked original old flask, Colt Army bullet mold with some cast lead bullets, and a partially filled tin of Ely percussion caps. The bullet mold is heavily pitted, but has a readable marking and usable cavities to make lead bullets. It is doubtful that the flask, while usable also, is the correct one for a cased Army. So, the point here being to not place a big value on the casing; it has some value, but nowhere near the $2500 for an original case with accessories would be if it were original. Also, on the downside of the revolver, it has a mismatched wedge and cylinder. These two pieces do match each other, but do NOT match the revolver. However, it is still a VERY handsome and very showy revolver, and it is not priced at the $20,000-$25,000 that it would be if it were a totally original cased set. VG+ as described. $3495 SOLD Antique: Yes |
