"HOARD'S ARMORY" FREEMAN ARMY MODEL "CIVIL WAR" ERA REVOLVER
Description: Scarce Hoard's Armory Freeman Army Model Percussion Revolver. These are very rare! Austin T. Freeman patent revolvers were manufactured by Hoard's Armory in Watertown, New York, in the final years of the Civil War. The design looks like a cross between the Remington and Starr revolvers. These revolvers have an interesting method of securing and removing the cylinder: a small switch on the right side that when pressed forward allows the cylinder and pin to fall out to the right. Total production is only estimated at 2,000 revolvers. None are known to have been purchased by the Federal Government. However, some may have been purchased and issued by state governments, and others were likely purchased privately. It is equipped with a small rounded blade front sight, frame groove rear sight, "FREEMAN'S PAT.DECR 9. 1862" on the right side of the sight groove and "HOARD'S ARMORY, WATERTOWN, N.Y" on the left side of the groove, and smooth grips. The matching serial number is stamped on the bottom of the barrel, loading lever, frame, cylinder pin, rear face of the cylinder, right side of the grip frame, and underside of the grips (faint). The Freeman Army Model was a robustly designed and finely finished revolver. Surviving examples of this limited production Civil War revolver are scarce in any condition and particularly desirable in high condition. The Condition if this Revolver is "Fine" with 50% original blue finish remaining and concentrated mainly on the frame. The balance has mostly smooth light brown patina, and there is some light oxidation and minor marks and scratches. The grips are very fine and have smooth oiled finish, a few tiny dings, and slight edge wear. Mechanically excellent. Buyer pays $20.00 shipping to the lower 48 states. I accept USPS Money Orders or Bank Cashier's Check. Will accept Personal check, with shipping hold. 3% Credit Card Fee! Three day non-firing, non-disassembly inspection period. If returned, for any reason, full refund less shipping. Layaway Available! One third down, balance on or before end of 90 days.
