19th Century DAGGER & .70 Cal PISTOL French An 13 Double Edged 14 Inch Dagger with Leather Scabbard!
Description: 19th Century DAGGER & .70 Cal PISTOL French An 13 Double Edged 14 Inch Dagger with Leather Scabbard! Here we present an antique French Pistolet modèle An XIII, or Pistol Model An 13, made in France between 1806 and 1814 at the armories at Charleville, Maubeuge, or St-Etienne. This pistol was originally made as a cavalry pistol by the French. It started out life as a flintlock and converted to percussion to keep them in service well into the mid-19th Century. Over 300,000 of these pistols were made during their 8 year production run. This pistol was designed to equip mounted units, each horseman using two pistols. It was also used by the Navy. An improved version, known as the M1822, was produced after the Napoleonic Wars. Proving that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, the Americans copied the design as the “Harpers Ferry Pistol” and used it against the British in the War of 1812. The pistol is of robust construction with lots of brass for support. The bore is a massive .70 caliber. The conversion seems American rather than French, given the contours of the hammer. There are clear Roman numerals on the right side of the stock. We’ll let you decide what those mean. It comes with a beautiful old two-edged dagger in an iron tipped and throated leather scabbard. Dagger is 14 inches overall with a 10 inch blade. Rounded iron pommel with a smooth wooden handle. Where these two formidable weapons have been in their time we do not know, but whoever packed them was well-armed indeed. The overall condition is good. The bore is smooth and dark. The action remains excellent. The dagger is in very good condition. The leather on the scabbard has shrunken slightly and remains in fantastic condition. This is a very neat set of weapons such as would have been found on a mountain man or trapper! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 7-3/4 inches. Caliber: .70 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1735 #190159 SOLD Antique: Yes |
