Antique SPRINGFIELD ARMS CO. Single Trigger NAVY Model PERCUSSION Revolver
Rare: 1 of only 125 Manufactured in 1850-51
Description: Antique SPRINGFIELD ARMS CO. Single Trigger NAVY Model PERCUSSION Revolver Rare: 1 of only 125 Manufactured in 1850-51 Here we present an antique engraved Springfield Arms Company Single Trigger Navy Model Percussion Revolver, manufactured circa 1851 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Springfield Arms Company existed only for a brief period in 1850 and 1851, making revolvers designed by its chief engineer, James Warner, before being driven out of business by Colt patent lawyers. During that time, Springfield Arms, which had no relation to the arsenal, made a variety of models in .28, .31, and .36 caliber and with a variety of barrel lengths and other features, including a well-designed safety notch to allow the guns to be carried fully loaded safely. Warner designed two different revolvers, one with two triggers and one with only one trigger. On the one trigger models, he was blatantly infringing on Colt’s Patent and only made 125 of these. On the two-trigger model, to avoid patent infringement, Warner separated the cylinder rotation and firing mechanisms into two different triggers. The front trigger would rotate and lock the cylinder, and then it would trip the rear trigger which released the sear and fired the gun. This was not sufficient to save him from copyright infringement suits, though, and only about 125 of the double-trigger Navy revolvers were made. Out of the 250 total revolvers manufactured, 125 single trigger and 125 two triggers, this example is serial number 20, making it one of the first built, and realistically, how many total are known existing out of only 125 of these single triggers? Very few. Here is a great opportunity to pick up a rare, early 1850s revolver that came out around the time of Samuel Colt’s Model 1851 Navy! The overall condition is very good. Excellent action. The bore is good for its age. Both grips are solid and contain and average amount of wear. Lightly engraved panoply of arms on the frame. The initial “G” is stamped on the butt of both grip panels, on the cylinder, and on the frame. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 6 inches. Caliber: .36 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $6225 #217372 SOLD Antique: Yes |
