ON HOLD. This is a very nice M 1851 Colt Navy revolver. It was made in 1863 at the height of the Civil War according to the Colt Archives. This one is serial number 173103. That number matches in 5 places. The wedge is unmarked but fits perfect. The one line New York Colt address is seen on the top of the barrel. The metal displays a bluish/gray patina with a couple of some patches of light surface rust. The brass parts have a mellow aged patina. The grips are near excellent. There is just a very faint trace of cylinder scene but the serial number is clear in the patent panel. The nipples are in good condition and are all vented. The action is crisp. The bore is very nice being clean with a frosty appearance when you shine the bore light through it. The frame to barrel assembly is very tight with no wobble. The revolver probably had some restoration at some point. I'm just guessing here but the serial number on the bottom of the barrel assembly was a little off when they stamped it or the area was "shaved" a tad to keep a tight fit to the frame. This revolver appears to have been well cared for and displays great. Whoever owned it kept it in great working order with a pleasing appearance. If you are looking for a shooter, this may be it but only after it is blessed by a competent Gunsmith. I just collect them, I don't shoot them.
