Civil War Factory Engraved Percussion Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver Identified To "Thomas A. Gross" Of The "42nd PA Vol. Infantry, Co. G,
Description: An Early & Rare Civil War Factory Engraved Percussion Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver Identified On The Backstrap To "Thomas A. Gross" Of The "42nd PA Vol. Infantry, Co. G, (Elk County Bucktails) In Fine Untouched Condition. Serial #180,713 with all matching numbers. Made in 1860, All original and complete. The pistol has fine metal, markings, and edges. It has fine & full factory engraving throughout it including a large dog's head on the left side of the barrel. It has a clear & full cylinder scene on it. The backstrap is inscribed "Thomas A. Gross". All of the metal on the entire revolver has an even and natural fine chocolate brown patina on it. The engraved backstrap and trigger guard retain all of their original factory silver on them. All screws are fine and have the same color. The burl grips are nice throughout. It has a fine action and good bore. Private Thomas A. Gross Had a fine history during the civil war. He mustered in on May 29, 1861 in Co. G, 42nd PA Vol. Infantry, (Elk County Rifles). He fought in Dranesville, 12/20/1861, Harrisonburg, June 6,1862, Cross keys, June 7, 1862, Catlett's Station, Aug. 22,1862, second Bull Run, Aug. 31,1862, South mountain, Sept. 14, 1862 & Antietam, Sept. 17, 1862. On October 28, 1862 he was in the hospital, after that he was discharged at the end of September. On September 24, 1864 he mustered into Co. K, 199th PA Vols. as a Sargeant. He mustured out on July 28th 1865 in Richmond Virginia. He is also in the book "THE ELK COUNTY BUCKTAILS "By Robert Winslow Nay. This book and his history come with the fine Engraved Colt Pocket Revolver. This Is A Very fine Fully Engraved Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver With Fine Civil War History. This Is A Very hard Combination To Find In An Identified Civil War Revolver. It Wouls Be A Wonderful And Historic Addition To Any Fine Collection!
