Engraved CIVIL WAR Era Antique BACON 2nd Model Percussion POCKET Revolver
SCARCE, 1 of around 3,000 MANUFACTURED
Description: Engraved CIVIL WAR Era Antique BACON 2nd Model Percussion POCKET Revolver SCARCE, 1 of around 3,000 MANUFACTURED Here we present an antique Bacon Manufacturing Company Second Model Pocket Revolver, made circa the late 1850s to early 1860s in Norwich, Connecticut with a production run between 1858 and 1867. Thomas K. Bacon had been a gunsmith working for the Manhattan Firearms Manufacturing Company when they moved their operation away from Norwich. Bacon left the company to stay behind and work on his own firearms manufacturing company. Part of Bacon’s contract with Manhattan included a “no-compete” clause that he would have been in violation of if the heads of Manhattan had bothered to sign the agreement. Nevertheless, they still took him to court with no official judgement recorded. The first pistol that Bacon marketed was the fully engraved .31 caliber “Excelsior” model revolver with a round cylinder and barrel. Shortly after that model came Bacon’s “2nd Model”, which is the only version to have the fluted cylinder, as is this example. There were approximately 3,000 of the Second Model revolvers produced with roughly half of those marked with the “BACON MFG. CO. NORWICH CONN.” marking on the top of the barrel. These revolvers were great favorites with Union Officers, who purchased these as a personal second revolver to take into battle. They were easily concealed and most effective, giving the officer an additional 5 shots when needed. Bacon’s arms were popular on the commercial market and many made their way onto Civil War battlefields upon being privately purchased by soldiers. Here is a nicely engraved Thomas Bacon revolver to add to your Civil War collection! The overall condition is good. Gray patina throughout. The action is strong but the cylinder needs assistance in turning. The bore is dim with thing rifling. The grips are solid. Numbers match. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .31 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1200 #240454 Price: $1,200.00 Buy Now Antique: Yes Contact Seller |
