Inscribed 1862 Police with History to the 1st United States Sharp Shooters
Description:
Today I am offering a unique Piece of History. This extremely early 1862 Police revolver was inscribed to H.E.(Henry Edwin) Kinsman. 1834-1905.
I was able to trace His Lineage thru the inscription that encompasses the Backstrap and Butt of this Revolver. Mr. Kinsman enlisted in April of 1861 and Became a Corporal in "A" company of the 1st Connecticut Cav.where he attained the rank of Corporal (inscription Matches this Period). After Just a few Months he Transferred to Company "F" (Vermont) of the 1st U.S.S.S. (United States Sharp Shooters /Berdan's) where thru his enlistment rose to the rank of 1st LT. I Was Unable to trace exactly howmany Campaigns Lt. Kinsman fought in (This could possibly be obtained thru the National Archives)
However the 1st. U.S.S.S. Fought in 19 (some very Impressive) Battles Before Lt. Kinsman was wounded at the Battle of Wilderness on May 07 1864.
He was Honorably Discharged on Sept. 17 1864 at which time he returned to Ct. where He worked as a Machinist until Retirement. He Died on May 14,1905. He Had 3 children one of which Pre Deceased Him. He is Buried at the Spring Grove Cemetary at 1035 N.Main St. Hartford Ct. All information that I have Will Be included.
The Pistol:
Serial #2898 with a 4 3/8 BBL.. All Matching including the Wedge. The finish is mostly a Smoothe Gray Patina with just traces of Blue and Case Hardening. There is a little bit more silver on the Backstrap and Trigger Guard. The Grips Retain better than 95% of their oringinal Varnish. None of the screws have been Buggered. It appears that one of the nipples has been worked on (possibly replaced but is hardly noticable. The Bore is Dirty, but the Barrel assembly fits very snugly so I made no attempt to disassemble it. Mechanically the only thing I noticed was that "once in a while" the hand doesn't function properly, however I believe it is probably just dirty. Beyond that it functions as it should. There is no visible Damage and the inscription is very legible... All and all this Little 62 is a great piece of history and is in very good plus condition. Asking $3750.00 plus shipping.
