John Walch Fire Arms Co., 12-Shot Super-Posed Load Navy Model Revolver .36 cal. s/n 79, Circa 1859-1860, Ultra Rare and High Condition
Description: Recognized as a Secondary U.S. Martial handgun, approximately 200 were produced between 1859 and 1860 at the Union Knife Company in Naugatuck, Connecticut for John Walch. Blued 6-inch octagonal barrel with front sight, left-side marked WALCH FIRE ARMS_CO / NEW -YORK, right-side marked PAT'D FEBY.8.1859 / 78, 6-chambered 12-shot cylinder for super-posed loads, frame numbered 79 on butt-strap, frame and back-strap engraved with foliate-scroll motif, checkered hammer spurs, case-hardened loading-lever, varnished deluxe walnut grips. Inside of frame with assembly numbered 66, with same that number also seen marked on cylinder face, under-side of barrel, loading-lever and wedge suggesting the revolver is entirely homogenous in spite of the barrel having the number 78 while the frame is numbered 79. Condition: Losses to bluing on barrel on right-side, some typical areas of wear at muzzle, some scratches and some marks at wedge, cylinder with areas of grey patina with wear at high points, some crushed nipples, frame retaining some original blue in protected areas (especially on left side) otherwise the frame displays a grey patina overall, grips retaining most original varnish though with many expected marks and wear along edges, minor fading on loading lever.
