Rare WESTLEY RICHARDS SELF-COCKING Percussion Revolver Antique 1 of 323 Manufactured; FACTORY ENGRAVED 80 Bore
Description: Rare WESTLEY RICHARDS SELF-COCKING Percussion Revolver Antique 1 of 323 Manufactured; FACTORY ENGRAVED 80 Bore Here we present a very rare antique Westley Richards Patent Five-Shot Self-Cocking Percussion Revolver made circa 1854-55 in London, England. The Westley Richards Patent Revolver was an early double action handgun, and today is one of the most difficult British percussion revolvers to come by with a total production of only 323 five-shot revolvers recorded. This revolver incorporates British patent numbers 14027 of March 20, 1852, for the mechanism and patent number 993 of May 3, 1854, for the rack and pinion rammer, which sets this Victorian revolver apart from all others. This example, number 233, comes with an octagonal barrel signed in full along the top flat along with an engraved band around the muzzle. It has a serial numbered cylinder with angled nipples, a border engraved action decorated with scrolling foliage, and a side-hammer with a gravitating, platinum filled safety stop which allows the user to push it up to block the hammer and allow the cylinder to revolve freely for reloading. There is a foliate scroll engraved trigger guard and butt cap with a hinged circular butt trap cover, and a checkered saw handled figured rounded butt. The gun is London proofed. Westley Richards & Co. still make world class firearms to this day, over 200 years later. William Westley Richards established his prestigious company in 1812, only yet 22 years of age, at 82 High Street in Birmingham. He established his high end London shop in 1815 at 170 New Bond Street. William’s son, Westley Richards, joined his father in business at the age of 26 and continued to prosper the business with his own ideas and patents. The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish and patina. The numbers match. The action is excellent. The bore is reflective with strong rifling. The grip is in good condition and there has been a small repair on the left side. Here is a fantastic and rare revolver with a unique design from a legendary English maker, Westley Richards. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 6 inches. Caliber: 80 Bore (.387 Percussion) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
