SHARMAN WEST BERRY of WOODBRIDGE Transitional PERCUSSION PEPPERBOX/REVOLVER
Double Action Made by Berry of Woodbridge, Suffolk, England
Description: SHARMAN WEST BERRY of WOODBRIDGE Transitional PERCUSSION PEPPERBOX/REVOLVER Double Action Made by Berry of Woodbridge, Suffolk, England Here we present an antique Transitional Revolver by Sharman West Berry of Woodbridge, Suffolk, England, made circa 1845. This piece is considered a prime example of transitional firearms technology. Successful revolvers to this point were few, the most successful being those known as “pepperboxes”, those revolvers having long cylinders with each chamber having its own barrel. They were usually double action and very similar to form as the revolver you see here. This one, however, has a short cylinder as well as a single barrel to which every chamber revolves to utilize. These are few, as the technology was quickly developing. This revolver is larger than average for the type with an overall length of about 12 inches and a .42 caliber bore. The octagonal barrel is marked “BERRY WOODBRIDGE”. The grips are finely checkered walnut. Beautiful engravings. Berry lived from about 1813-1875 and was active as a gunmaker from about 1840-1870. The overall condition is Fine. The bore is shiny and smooth. The action (hammer/trigger) is strong, though the trigger return spring is a tad weak. Excellent cylinder lock-up. You can certainly feel the pepperbox inspiration. With ornate engravings on the frame, trigger guard, tip of the barrel, and the bottom of the grips, this makes for a handsome display piece as well. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .42 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #190708 SOLD Antique: Yes |
