Cimarron Model P Old Frame .45 LC Revolver 4.75” Barrel Excellent Condition
Description: The Cimarron Model P is a fairly accurate reproduction of the Colt Single Action Army (SAA) revolver, also known as the Peacemaker. The Old Model version of the Model P is based on the SAA as it was produced by Colt between 1873 and 1896. As such, the base pin is retained in the frame by a screw rather than the more commonly known cross pin and spring. This previously owned example is the blued, 4-3/4” barrel version chambered for the legendary .45 Colt, the cartridge most associated with the Peacemaker having been chambered for that round more often than the others. In total, between the standard, Bisley, and Flat-Top Target versions of the First Generation (1873-1940), up to 158,884 were chambered for the .45 Colt compared to 71,392 for the .44-40 Winchester round. One simple reason for the .45 Colt's popularity back in the Old West was its stopping power. It was well suited as a self-defense round. Today, the .45 Colt is still chambered in SAA replicas such as the Model P shown here due to its popularity with the Cowboy Action shooting groups, particularly the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS). Given the 4.75” barrel, in Old West terminology, this revolver would be considered a “Quickdraw” model, named for its ability to be quickly withdrawn from its holster. There are two other original barrel lengths for an SAA. The Cavalry Model, with a 7.5” barrel, named for its use by the U.S. Cavalry, and the Artillery Model with a 5.5” barrel, again named for its use by a branch of the U.S. Army, in this case the artillery branch. In terms of condition, the revolver is in excellent shape. The loading gate exhibits some loss of the case hardening but the rest of pistol looks to be nearly in factory new condition. The bore is in pristine shape while the cylinder has very little in the way of a turn ring on the cylinder. The grips are quite beautiful with respect to wood grain and finish. There is no box.
