An Early & Very Desirable U.S. Military Used 2nd Model Whitney Navy Revolver Finely Inscribed On The Backstrap In Script To "ORDINANCE SERG'T 12TH C.V
Description: An Early & Very Desirable U.S. Military Used 2nd Model Whitney Navy Revolver Finely Inscribed On The Blackstrap In Script To "ORDINANCE SERG'T 12TH C.V." In Nice Untouched Condition. Early serial #2,815, all matching numbers. All original and complete. Made 1860-1861. The revolver has nice metal & markings including the cylinder scene. The blackstrap inscription is finely done in script as shown. The sergeant's name was taken off the blackstrap as shown in the photos; there is still some of the letters that are partially visible. This name should not be too difficult to find as he was an "Ordinance Sergeant" of the "12th Conn. Vols." and there were not many of these sergeants during the civil war. This most likely happened because the revolver was sold by the owner later on after the civil war was over. All of the metal on the revolver has nice edges with an untouched patina which still shows hints of color in spots. All of the screws are nice. The brass trigger guard is fine & untouched. The original grips are fine throughout and are numbered to the gun. It has a fine action and a nice bore. The 12th Conn. Vol. Infantry Had A Fine History In The Civil War. They were organized on 11/19/1861 and mustered out on 12/2/1864. They were in 56 battles and skirmishes during the war where they lost 6 Officers, and 65 enlisted men. Some of them included "Georgia Landing LA, Pattersonville LA, On U.S. Gun Boat, "Diana", Bisland Island LA, Port Hudson LA, where they fought on and off for 26 plus days, Winchester VA, Cedar Creek, VA, plus many others. This Is A Fine Example Of Early & Very Desirable U.S. Military Used 2nd Model Whitney Navy Revolver Finely Inscribed On The Backstrap In Script To "ORDINANCE SERG'T 12TH C.V." With Fine History That Definitely Could Have Further Research Done On It To Find Out The Sargeants Name!
