Cased ENGRAVED Antique MANHATTAN Pocket Revolver
With Great Stagecoach Robbery Cylinder Scene!
Description: Cased ENGRAVED Antique MANHATTAN Pocket Revolver With Great Stagecoach Robbery Cylinder Scene! Here we present an antique Manhattan Arms Percussion Pocket Revolver, made circa 1858-62 in Newark, New Jersey. Manhattan Fire Arms Co. was founded in 1856 specifically to capitalize on the soon to be expiring Colt patents in 1857. This strategy worked very well for the company and they began by making high quality and very close copies of both Colts and other popular pistols with expired patents. These revolvers greatly resemble the Colt Model 1849 Pocket and 1851 Navy revolvers. In fact, Manhattan’s copies of Colts were so close that Colt tried to kill their production with a lawsuit, even though their patent had expired. Manhattan’s revolvers were very well received by the public. The company never received U.S. military contracts, except for a small delivery, most likely on the regimental level. Nevertheless, many Manhattan revolvers found themselves on smoky Civil War battlefields, purchased privately by officers and soldiers, and they were certainly in use at home. The war created a vast and unquenchable market for firearms of all types. This pocket revolver was made to compete against Colt’s 1849 Pocket Model revolver and even has a very interesting likeness of Colt’s Stagecoach Robbery cylinder scene. In addition, this one was modestly but neatly factory engraved to add value. The top of the barrel is marked “MANHATTAN FIRE ARMS MF’G CO. NEW York”. Patent dates are located under the frame. This piece comes in a hobbyist case ready to be furnished with accoutrements. The overall condition is very good. The iron parts have a gray patina. The cylinder scene is quite clear. The markings are clear and legible. The numbers match. The grips are in very nice shape. The bore is in good condition with sharp rifling under a layer of dust. The action is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .31 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1650 #190709 SOLD Antique: Yes |
