CIVIL WAR Era PATENT INFRINGEMENT Antique MOORE’S Belt Revolver .32 Rimfire “MF’D FOR SMITH & WESSON BY MOORE’S”
Description: CIVIL WAR Era PATENT INFRINGEMENT Antique MOORE’S Belt Revolver .32 Rimfire “MF’D FOR SMITH & WESSON BY MOORE’S” Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson Marked Factory Engraved Moore’s Patent Firearms Co. Single Action Belt Revolver. These revolvers were made in Brooklyn, New York from 1861-1863 and number less than 8,000 in total. This is a very interesting revolver as this is one of the scarce examples of an already scarce gun that is barrel marked “MF’D FOR SMITH & WESSON BY MOORE’S PATENT FIREARMS CO.” This is the result of Moore’s Patent Co. losing the patent infringement lawsuit, brought by Rollin White and Smith & Wesson. In this era, many companies infringed on the Rollin White patent. They were promptly sued. Others tried and succeeded in finding ways around the patent to make metallic cartridge revolvers while the Rollin White Patent was still in effect. Daniel Moore, the designer of this revolver was one who did both. He designed a cartridge revolver that was the first “swing-out” cylinder revolver, but blatantly infringed on S&W’s patent. As mentioned above, he was sued and lost. The other significance of this pistol is that many of these are known to have been purchased by Union officers and enlisted men for use during the American Civil War. Mechanically, this revolver utilizes a push-button release that allows the barrel and cylinder to cant to the right for loading and unloading. The cylinder is chambered for 7 shots of .32 rimfire and is fully bored through, violating the Smith & Wesson owned Rollin White Patent. The pistol also features full factory engraving on the brass frame, which is quite handsome. The overall condition is very good. Gray steel surfaces; a bit of silver pate on the brass frame. The action and lockup are excellent. The bore is in nice condition with good rifling. The grip is in very nice condition. Don’t miss a chance to own this rare piece of firearms and Civil War history! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4 inches. Caliber: .32 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2000 #217815 SOLD Antique: Yes |
